NOTE! In case of the PDA-based automation system, it is strongly recommended to use the automatic Form No.2 of the FCconfig application in order to apply the settings to the inverter.

3.2. Automatic configuration of the exhaust fan drive - FCW

NOTE! The communications cable should be disconnected from the supply drive 鈥 FCN.

1. In Form No.2 mark:
- LG iC5 鈥 on the drive selection list
- Exhaust 鈥 drive function selector
- Motor type from the nameplate 鈥 on the motor selection list
2. Start the data transmission by pushing Apply button
3. Turn off the control gear by means of the main switch and wait until the displays of both inverters fade.

3.3. Automatic configuration of the supply drive 鈥 FCN
1. Connect the communications cable to the supply drive 鈥 FCN.
2. Turn on the control gear.
3. In Form No.2 mark:
- LG iC5 鈥 on the drive selection list
- Supply 鈥 drive function selector
- Motor type from the nameplate 鈥 on the motor selection list
2. Start the data transmission by pushing Apply button

3.4. Manual configuration of the inverters
If any communication errors occurred during the automatic configuration of the inverters, the Form No.1 of the FCconfig application shall be used. The mentioned form allows the user to set all parameters one by one, or to set only those parameters, which caused the communication errors. The complete list of parameters, that have to be set to ensure full compatibility with the PDA, consists of basic parameters listed in Table No.1 and additional parameters listed in Table No.2 in columns marked with FCN and FCW (supply and exhaust drive, respectively). In Form No.1 the Offset should be set to 鈥1 or the LG iC5 should be chosen from the selection list. The Parameter means the Modbus address of the parameter.

3.5. Termination of the RS485 bus
In case of using long communication cable (more than 100m) the signal reflections may influent the communication reliability. The user can avoid that effect by connecting a termination resistors at both ends of the communication bus. The LG iC5 inverter is equipped with built-in terminating resistor, that can be activated by closing the dip-switch JP1 placed on the Modbus board, next to the communication terminal.

I. REFRIGERATING OPERATION OF ARTIC FREEZERS

1. Artic -45掳C

These units are equipped with a single compressor. When the freezer is switched on, if the required temperature is lower than the measured temperature, the compressor starts working and only stops when the measured temperature is 2掳C lower than that required.
The compressor will only start up again when the measured temperature is 2掳C higher than that required. For example, if the required value is -40掳C, the compressor will stop at -42掳C and will start working again at -38掳C.

2. Artic -85掳C

These units are equipped with two compressors. They are called CP1 for the first stage (or high pressure) compressor and CP2 for the second stage (or low pressure) compressor.
When switched on, CP1 starts up immediately and will only stop when the measured temperature is two degrees lower than that required. On the other hand, CP2 will only start up when the intermediate temperature is -25掳C (plus a time delay of one minute). Then the compressors will continue working together until the intermediate temperature has risen to -11掳C and CP2 stops; and so on until the required temperature is reached.

II. HP1 PRESSURE SWITCH SAFETY CUT-OUT ALARM

1. Important
The high pressure safety cut-out of the high pressure circuit is a security organ limiting the compressor discharge pressure. This organ is factory-set. ITS SETTING CANNOT BE MODIFIED WITHOUT APPROVAL FROM THE FROILABO COMPANY.

2. Cause of the safety cut-out
If the safety cut-out is activated, the first thing to do is to find the reason why it was activated, in order to avoid a repetition of the problem.
Possible causes are:
- The ventilator is not operating (check its supply and if necessary replace it)
- Condenser filter and/or condenser choked (clean the condenser, change the filter)
- Ambient temperature higher than +35掳C (check that the air conditioning is working, move the apparatus if necessary)
- Heat source at the suction port of the condenser or on the freezer, sun or hot air outlet from an apparatus (suppress or displace this source).

3. Restarting the apparatus
1/ Disconnect the mains supply.
2/ Cut off the battery by means of the switch placed at the back (A80, A120 and other Artic units before 2001) or at the front of the apparatus (bottom right).
3/ Supply the unit with 12 Volts using the battery switch and press the 鈥淣鈥 key of the keyboard at the same time. Keep the 鈥淣鈥 key pressed down for at least 30 seconds until the display shows:
鈥淪et point 鈥80 Alarm 鈥60 Measure 鈥80鈥
If this does not appear, start the operation again and continue until the correct message is obtained.

4/ Plug in the 230 Volts supply (the ventilator and compressor will start). Press on the 鈥淣鈥 key to cancel the message 鈥淧ower failure鈥 and 鈥渢emperature alarm鈥.
5/ Wait a few minutes to check that the internal temperature of the freezer falls (measurement shown on the LCD).

III. OPEN DOOR ALARM

1. Operating principle
FROILABO vertical freezers are equipped with a door contact. This contact makes it possible to verify that the door is correctly closed, and the contact has a time delay. There are two types of contact, one magnetic and one mechanical. This alarm does not affect the operation of the freezer.
Type of contact:
-mechanical contact: Normally open (door closed)
-magnetic contact: Normally closed (door closed).

2. Cause of the alarm
Check that the door is correctly closed, and if the fault persists, check the condition of the contact directly on the circuit card using the wiring diagrams appendix 1 and 2 (if necessary, check that no wire has been severed). In all cases where the contact is not correct, verify the following points:

-The joint is full of frost (clean it and check the door locking at the level of the latch or hinges).

Clean the thermal bridge and the 3 silicon joints using dry compressed air or a wiper.

-The magnetic contact is not aligned with the magnet (align the two elements using the three tightening screws).

-The contact is defective (replacement required).

Finally, if the freezer is still in alarm mode, check the contact parameter (see page 23, internal parameter).

N.B.: when the apparatus is in alarm mode for a partly closed door (after being open for about 10 minutes), the buzzer sounds, the LCD display flashes and the dry contact behind the apparatus changes state. When the door is properly closed again, the fault disappears.

3. Other
Horizontal freezers and Artic 80 are not equipped with a door contact. These units have a direct electric bridge on the circuit card.

IV. SENSOR 1 BROKEN ALARM

1. Important
If the apparatus is in 鈥渟ensor 1 broken鈥 alarm mode, the freezer chamber temperature measurement cannot be carried out, but for total security the compressors continue operating until the fault is dealt with. There is no need to stop the freezer while waiting for the service engineer to arrive.

2. Role and positioning
Sensor 1 is the adjustment sensor for the apparatus; it enables the temperature of the freezer chamber to be controlled. It is placed:
- For horizontal freezers: on the chamber in the polyurethane injection; to replace it pass via the machinery below
- For Artic 80 and vertical freezers (except for Artic 600): inside the chamber behind a sensor cover in stainless steel fixed by 4 screws, on the right of the apparatus
- For Artic 600: on the tubing of the last refrigerated shelf.

3. Cause of the alarm
In this situation, the circuit card cannot read the sensor resistance value. To begin with, disconnect the PT100 sensor from the circuit card and check its value with an ohmmeter and compare this with the PT100 sensor table (page 26).
If the sensor is open, whether it is a matter of its measuring element or its wire, it must be replaced by a PT100 2 wire Froilabo sensor (the length of the wire and its resistance are specific).
To replace it, proceed as follows:
- For vertical Artic freezers, open the door, take off the protective cover in stainless steel and cut the two Colson collars (Figures 3 and 4)
- Take off the right side protective cover, undo the two electric wires connected to the circuit card
- Cut the sensor shield wire and take the sensor out of the cable gland.

To reassemble the sensor, lengthen the sensor shielding and earth it.

V. SENSOR 2 BROKEN ALARM

1. Important
If the apparatus is in 鈥渟ensor 2 broken鈥 alarm mode, measurement of the intermediate exchanger temperature cannot be carried out, and the apparatus indicates abnormal operation. Do not switch it off or restart it in these conditions, but leave it working until a service engineer arrives. He will set the freezer chamber temperature to normal.

2. Role and positioning
Sensor 2 allows operation of the refrigerating cascade by controlling the second compressor. It is located on the intermediate exchanger (between stage 1 and stage 2). It is positioned at the back of the apparatus behind the white cover fixed by 4 screws (figures 5 and 6).

3. Cause of the alarm
In this situation, the circuit card cannot read the sensor resistance value. To begin with, disconnect the PT100 sensor from the circuit card and check its value with an ohmmeter and compare this with the PT100 sensor table (page 26).
If the sensor is open, whether it is a matter of its measuring element or its wire, it must be replaced by a PT100 2 wire Froilabo sensor (the length of the wire and its resistance are specific).
To replace it, proceed as follows:
- Remove the white cover (4 wires), and take the sensor out of the copper tube (figures 5 and 6)

To reassemble the sensor, lengthen the sensor shielding and earth it.
Replace the rock wool and the different joints correctly.

VI. MAINS POWER SUPPLY ABSENT ALARM

1. Important

In this situation, the circuit card of the apparatus is no longer fed by the linear 14 Volts supply but by the backup.
2. Role of the battery

Artic freezers are equipped with a battery to announce failures and if necessary control the CO2 or LN2 solenoid valve, when there is a mains power supply cut.
3. Cause of the alarm

The failure comes either from a failure of the 230 Volts supply to the apparatus, or from a circuit card supply problem.
4. Repairing the fault

Proceed in this order:

1/ Check whether the mains supply is working.
2/ Check that the supply fuse is correct (replace it if necessary and investigate the cause of the problem).
3/ Check that the 230 Volts/14 Volts linear supply to the freezer is fed with 230 Volts.
4/ Check that the supply output is 14 Volts direct current. Replace it if necessary (only use a Froilabo stabilized linear supply, never use a transformer).
5/ Check that the circuit card is fed with 14 Volts (if necessary replace the connecting wire).

VII. TEMPERATURE ALARM

1. Important

When a unit is switched on, between the ambient temperature and the alarm temperature, the apparatus will register that the temperature is incorrect. Avoid this problem by pressing on the 鈥淣鈥 key. When the apparatus reaches a temperature below the alarm mode, it will pass back to ON.
Also check that the apparatus indicates no other fault.
2. Role of the alarm

When the temperature rises, Artic freezers are equipped with a buzzer and a dry contact behind the apparatus.
To stop the buzzer press on the 鈥淣鈥 key of the keyboard.
3. Cause of the alarm

The apparatus temperature has risen above the required alarm temperature set by the customer.
4. Repairing the fault

To begin with, check that room temperature is no higher than 32掳C.
Then check that the door is not opened too frequently or for too long. Also check the freezer load, and instruct the customer to avoid loading too large a product quantity at too high a temperature.
1/ Check the alarm setting relative to the required temperature. The minimum temperature difference is 10掳C, and the usual and recommended difference is 20掳C.
2/ Check that the ventilator and two compressors are working (visually and aurally).

N.B.: When a Klixon compressor (internal protection) or one of the two refrigerating circuits has a leak, the circuit card receives no information. The card continues to request operation of the two compressors. The state of the card relays can be verified by pressing simultaneously on the 鈥溍 and N鈥 keys. In this menu the CP1 and CP2 relay states can be found and also the value of the intermediate temperature.
If the display shows: 楼 楼 -34 庐 the two card relays are stuck and the intermediate temperature is -34掳C (correct operation).
If the display shows: 楼 20 庐 only one card relay is stuck; the CP1 and the intermediate temperature is 20掳C; if the CP1 compressor is not working, check its supply and if this is correct then check the Klixon compressor (call the Froilabo company). On the other hand, if the compressor is working, either the circuit is empty or the compressor is broken.
If the display shows:: 楼 楼 -44 庐 and the freezer is at 20掳C and rising in temperature, the two card relays are stuck; the CP1 must be operating correctly and the CP2 compressor has a problem (call the Froilabo company).

On a -85掳C freezer, when the temperature measured is -80掳C, the intermediate temperature is usually comprised between -22掳C and -40掳C.

VIII. DISPLAY ERROR ON AN ARTIC KEYBOARD

1. Important
In many cases, even if the display gives an erroneous message, the freezer will continue to operate correctly.

2. Message: set value 鈥150掳C alarm 鈥150掳C
During micro cut-outs, or starting up a generator, the card can lose all its internal parameters. In this case, the display will show 鈥渟et point -150掳C alarm -150掳C鈥. The apparatus will thus be in temperature alarm mode. Proceed as follows:
1/ Stop the unit by pressing simultaneously on 鈥溍 and ON/OFF鈥 then on the 鈥渧alid鈥 key.
2/ Enter the Froilabo secret code and enter the internal parameters in the card (see page 23).
3/ Restart the unit, and change the required temperature and the alarm temperature.

3. Message: measurement 鈥800掳C
As a result of parasites on the electricity network or a poor earth, the display may show -800掳C. In this case, only the display is faulty, the apparatus regulates correctly and its alarm operates. Press on the 鈥淣鈥 key to return to a correct display. Check the apparatus network and earth.

4. Message: door badly closed
For the same reasons, the Artic card can lose its parameters without displaying: 鈥渟et point -150掳C alarm -150掳C鈥; in this case again, enter the Froilabo secret code and enter the internal parameters in the card (see page 23).

IX. DISPLAY ABSENT ON AN ARTIC KEYBOARD

1. Important

If the apparatus is supplied by 240 Volts, even if the card has lost its supply, the two compressors and the ventilator operate continuously to save the products.
2. Diagnostic aid

All these operations must be carried out in the following order.
1/ Check that the apparatus is supplied with 230 Volts.
2/ If the freezer is working (noise of compressors), stop it if possible by pressing simultaneously on 鈥溍 and ON/OFF鈥 then on the 鈥渧alid鈥 key (if the card is operational, the compressors will stop).
3/ Remove the electric protection cover (above the machinery on the Artic 120 and the horizontals, or behind the right hand panel on other equipment).
4/ Check the presence of a voltage after the 230 Volts fuse (change the fuse if necessary).
5/ Check that the linear supply is correctly fed with 240 Volts.
6/ Check the presence of a 14 Volts supply as output feed (if necessary replace the feed).
7/ Check the presence of a 14 Volts supply for feeding the circuit card (if necessary change the connecting wires).
8/ Disconnect the battery.
9/ Check the voltage on the battery (12 Volts direct current) (if necessary change the battery).
10/ The card LED must be lit up continuously.
11/ Replace the wires of the 12 Volts battery.

12/ Pull out the 230 Volts plug.
13/ Lower the 12 Volts switch on the battery placed behind or in front of the apparatus.
14/ Check that the 40 points connector is connected correctly on the circuit card.
15/ Replace the connector by the test mounting.
16/ Check that all the connectors and wires are correctly connected and press on the unit鈥檚 12 Volts connector.
17/ If the card is fed with 12 Volts and the LCD is not working, then replace the card.
18/ If the LCD displays 鈥淧RESS ON ON/OFF TO START鈥 stop the 12 Volts, dismantle the banana keyboard and try the test mounting on the existing ribbon cable.
19/ Switch on the 12 Volts; in the case of absence of display change the ribbon cable, and in the case of display change the LCD.
20/ Restart the apparatus:
- Put back all the connectors, connect up the battery, lower the 12 Volts switch
- The display must be readable and illuminated for several seconds before cutting out. Then push in the 230 Volts plug (the apparatus may indicate Supply cut for several seconds).

X. RESETTING AN ARTIC CARD

3. Important

Resetting an Artic card always involves modification of parameters (see page 23).
4. Reset

1/ Stop the apparatus by pressing simultaneously on 鈥溍 and ON/OFF鈥 and then on the 鈥渧alid鈥 key.
2/ Pull out the 230 Volts plug.
3/ Lower the 12 Volts switch (behind or in front of the apparatus).
4/ At the same time, press on the 鈥淰ALIDATE鈥 key and feed the apparatus with a 12 Volts supply, keep the key pressed down for at least 30 seconds. Then the apparatus should show 鈥減ress on/off to start鈥. If this is not the case, begin the operation again until the correct message is obtained.
5/ Push in the 230 Volts plug.
6/ Setting the internal parameters of the apparatus (see page 23).
7/ Press simultaneously on 鈥溍 and ON/OFF鈥 to start up the apparatus.
8/ Set the required temperature value, the alarm and the CO2/LN2 injection.
9/ Check that the two compressors start working and that the temperature of the apparatus drops.

XI. REPLACING AN ARTIC CARD

1/ Stop the apparatus by pressing simultaneously on 鈥溍 and ON/OFF鈥 and then on the 鈥渧alid鈥 key.
2/ Pull out the 230 Volts plug.
3/ Lower the 12 Volts switch (behind or in front of the apparatus).
4/ Remove the electric protection cover (above the machinery on the Artic 120 and the horizontals, or behind the right panel on other equipment).
5/ Disconnect the Artic card.
6/ Undo the circuit card (4 screws).
7/ Check the EPROM type (Artic 2).
8/ Check the absence of jp8 and jp9 jumpers on the card (see wiring diagrams in appendix 1 and 2).
9/ Connect the circuit card.
10/ Lift the 12 V switch, plug in the 230 Volts plug.
11/ Press simultaneously on 鈥溍 and ON/OFF鈥 to start up the apparatus
12/ Set the required temperature, the alarm and the CO2/LN2 injection.
13/ Check that the two compressors start working and that the temperature of the apparatus drops.

XII. INTERNAL PARAMETER

Access to parameters is reserved for Froilabo technicians and suppliers. To carry out these operations, set the apparatus on stand-by (apparatus stopped with 230 Volts and 12 Volts supplies). The LCD must display 鈥減ress on ON/OFF to start鈥.
1/ ARROW + Display of the software version
2/ ARROW - Display of analogue inputs
S1: measurement of the chamber temperature, S2: measurement of the intermediate temperature. .
3/ ARROW VALID Display of logic inputs
E1: state of the door contact, E2: not used, E3 state of the pressure switch, E4: presence of mains supply.
4/ ARROW CO2 TEST Launch the test battery
5/ Access to the Artic card parameterizing:
Keep the apparatus on stand-by, press simultaneously on the ARROW and SET POINT keys, the ARROW key first; the apparatus must emit several BIPs to prove that you are in the configuration, then press the VALIDATE key, then the N key and simultaneously on the ARROW AND SET PONT keys and ARROW AND VALID:

XIII. REPLACEMENT OF STATIC RELAYS BY MECHANICAL RELAYS

1. Important
In no case use standard mechanical contactors for starting up compressors; only use contactors provided by the Froilabo company (high risk of parasites with standard relays and limited lifetime for the Artic card).

2. Mounting contactors
1/ Stop the apparatus by pressing simultaneously on 鈥溍 and ON/OFF鈥 then on the 鈥渧alid鈥 key.
2/ Pull out the 230 Volts plug.
3/ Lower the battery 12 Volts switch (behind or in front of the apparatus).
4/ Remove the electric protection cover (above the machinery on the Artic 120 and the horizontals, or behind the right panel on other equipment).
5/ Disconnect the static relays by finding the wires.
6/ Remove the relays (2 screws).
7/ Mount the two Froilabo relays.
8/ Switch on the supply from the bobbin on A1 and A2 to the right of the contactor at the top and the bottom.
9/ Switch on the power on 1L1 and 2T1 to the left of the contactor at the top and the bottom by connecting an anti-parasite between these two terminals.
10/ Fix the two terminals on a DIN rail.
11/ Check that all the wires are connected correctly.
12/ Lift the 12 Volts switch, push back the 230 Volts plug, start up the apparatus.
13/ Check that the two compressors start working and that the freezer temperature drops.
